The cost of air travel continues to fall for Canadians. And fall fast. In its latest consumer price index report, Statistics Canada says the price of air transportation in Canada dropped 19.4% in October. According to Canadian Press, that follows a year-over-year drop of 21% in September, and 20% in August. It’s National Cheap Flight Day on Wednesday, Aug. 23, and a new study says airline prices are dropping in the U.S. and Canada. Airfare prices in Canada jumped 11.6 per cent year over year in May, according to Statistics Canada. Canadian Press says tickets are now above pre-pandemic levels. CP quotes Montreal-based Hopper Inc. as saying that prices are up 15 per cent from 2019 to $960 on average for international flights from Canada, with no sign of a dip in the coming months.
