It never gets old.
I’ve been to Maui I think 23 or 24 times now, but I never get tired of the beaches and the mountains and the views, not to mention the food and the towns and the fantastic golf at Kapalua.
I thought about playing Kapalua’s Plantation course on my last visit but it’s pretty tough and I was organizing a family round with folks of varying ability. As much as I wanted to play the Plantation loop, where they just finished the Hyundai tournament of champions yesterday, we opted instead for the gentler but still fun Bay course.
Here are some photos of the course, along with some shots of the area in general. Instead of a beach hotel, this time we opted for lots of space at a series of condos at Kaanapali Royal, located on the Kaanapali Golf Course. They were terrific units; spacious and welcoming with all the amenities, and just a short walk to Whalers’ Village for shopping and to fabulous Kaanapali Beach. Highly recommended, even if you’re not a golfer.

Wonderful Napili Beach, for my money the best in Hawaii, is just a stone’s throw from Kapalua.
Sunsets are magical at Napili Beach. Try the bar or go for dinner at the lovely Sea House restaurant at the Napili Kai Beach Resort.
Many condos at Kaanapali Royal offer views of the golf course and the ocean, as well as the island of Lanai.
Kaanapali Royal condos offer a great pool and hot tub complex. You’ll also find gas barbeques, a great way to save on your food bill.
Kaanapali Beach is great for bodysurfing and snorkelling, or just watching the waves. That’s my Dad and his friend, Lucy.
A Hawaiian luau at the Westin Maui on Kaanapali Beach is a great way to spend the evening. It’s an outstanding resort with family-friendly pools and waterslides.
The torch lighting and cliff-diving ceremony is held every night at sunset at the Sheraton on Kaanapali Beach.
Leoda’s Kitchen and Pies is a great, family food spot south of Lahaina. Try the toasted Reuben for gooey goodness.
The town of Lahaina offers great shopping and waterfront restaurants.
