Jasper, Banff, Calgary and more: my cross-Canada tour hits Alberta
I mentioned Edmonton in a blog a couple weeks ago, showing some photos of a city that’s very much on the rise. Today I’ll stick to the mountains and a bit of Calgary as I continue my look at great Canadian destinations.
Canmore, just outside Banff, offers a series of remarkable golf courses with great views. This was taken at Silvertip Resort. JIM BYERS PHOTO
You can’t go wrong with a room (or a meal) at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. JIM BYERS PHOTO
Moraine Lake might be the prettiest spot in Alberta. It’s just a few minutes from Lake Louise. JIM BYERS PHOTO
Azuridge is a fabulous and beautiful resort and conference centre south of Calgary. JIM BYERS PHOTO
Moose and mountain goats aren’t the only cute critters you’ll see on a hike in the Rockies. JIM BYERS PHOTO
Calgary has a great series of bike trails and marvellous urban parks. JIM BYERS PHOTO
Waterton Lakes might be my favourite national park in Canada. It’s on the border of Montana and offers Banff-like scenery without the crowds. JIM BYERS PHOTO
The Post Hotel and Spa in Lake Louise has gorgeous cabins that are just made for a cozy night by the fire. JIM BYERS PHOTO
The Glacier Skywalk attraction takes you high out over a steep canyon between Jasper and Banff. #Yikes. BREWSTER TRAVEL CANADA PHOTO
A sled dog ride outside Canmore is a fantastic Alberta experience. Try the folks at Mad Dogs and Englishmen. JIM BYERS PHOTO
Local museums in Banff and Canmore tell great stories about pioneers, including influential women who made their mark in difficult times. JIM BYERS PHOTO
The Chuckwagon is a famous spot in Turner Valley, south of Calgary. Great burgers! The wonderful Eau Claire Distillery is next door and makes what I think is some of the world’s best vodka. JIM BYERS PHOTO
Le Germain is a sexy boutique hotel in downtown Calgary. JIM BYERS PHOTO
You’ll find fantastic views of Alberta and next-door B.C. on a walk from the Sunshine Village Ski Resort near Banff. JIM BYERS PHOTO

How come Moraine Lake is not in the list…? IMHO Moraine Lake is much better than Lake Louise…
Regards,
Edwin
Moraine Lake is most definitely in the list. It was there from the beginning.
