Omicron Forcing Travel Cancellations, Survey of Canadians Says

A new survey finds that roughly one-third of Canadians have cancelled travel plans due to the Omicron variant.

The survey by Canadian-based redflagdeals.com found that 31% of respondents said they’ve cancelled flights because of the variant. Of course, that means nearly 70% plan to go ahead with travel plans.

WestJet officials today told me they were very busy over the Christmas weekend.

The survey also found that 63% of Canadians are hesitant about booking new flights right now.

But Canadians also appear optimistic about the future. While only 22% of Canadians plan to fly in the next one to three months, and only 25% in the next three to six months, a full 45% plan to fly somewhere in the next six to 12 months.

Forty eight per cent of Canadians said they’d travel within Canada when the time comes, followed by 36% who plan to travel to the U.S. and 28% to Asia. Nineteen per cent said they’d travel to Europe and 18% said they’d fly to the Caribbean.

Canadians also appear eager to visit cities. A full 61% of respondents said they’d visit a city, while 37% would take a beach holiday. Twenty one per cent of those surveyed said they’d visit a town, while 20% said they’ll go on an outdoor/adventure vacation.
