Rough Day for Canadian Fliers As Cancellations Pile Up

After a few days of relatively settled conditions, it’s another rough go today for folks flying Canadian airlines.

According to stats from flightaware.com, as of 1 p.m. Easter Time Air Canada Jazz has seen 81 cancellations today, which accounts for 19% of their scheduled flights. It’s a little better for Air Canada’s main line, but they’re still listed with 46 cancellations (12% of flights). Air Canada Rouge had six cancellations (11%).

“Our schedule is being impacted by a number of factors including weather (particularly in Eastern Canada today), changing government rules and resource constraints related to COVID affecting both internal and third-party providers of various services,” Air Canada told me in an email. “This remains the case but we are managing through and expecting to move most customers today.”

WestJet is having a much easier time of it today, with just eight cancellations (3%). WestJet Encore is shown as having nine cancelled flights (5%).

No cancellations were showing for other Canadian airlines.

Flight Aware said there were 45 cancellations at Toronto Pearson Airport, representing 11% of flights. Montreal-Trudeau was showing 21 cancelled flights (9%), while there were just eight cancellations for both Calgary (4% of flights) and Vancouver (2%).
