There’s growing evidence that Canada is open to changing its on-arrival testing program for international air travellers. A prominent tourism and business group yesterday called for on-arrival tests to be scrapped, arguing they’re not necessary and that tests should be redeployed to help make up for test shortages in Canadian communities. After a few days of relatively settled conditions, it’s another rough go today for folks flying Canadian airlines. According to stats from flightaware.com, as of 1 p.m. Easter Time Air Canada Jazz has seen 81 cancellations today, which accounts for 19% of their scheduled flights. It’s a little better for Air Canada’s main line, but they’re still listed with 46 cancellations (12% of flights). There are more positive signs pointing to a travel rebound this year and in the coming years, both for leisure and business travel. According to a report from Reuters, Spanish tourism officials expect the country’s tourism gross domestic product to reach $186 billion CAD in 2022. That would be 88% of pre-pandemic levels, versus just 57% for last year. Officials said they expect to return to full pre-pandemic activity by 2023.
