Sunwing Cyber Woes Continue Today

Sunwing Airlines Inc. says the network-wide system outage that has grounded travellers and delayed flights to and from sun destinations is still not resolved. The crisis is now stretching into its fifth day.

Canadian Press and the Toronto Star report that Sunwing continues to advise customers travelling over the next few days to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

Sunwing has apologized for the ongoing delays, which it says are the result of a data security breach affecting its third-party provider of passenger handling systems.

The Toronto-based airline/travel company says it has been forced to write out tickets by hand since the attack took place on Sunday.

Sunwing posted a series of tweets on its Twitter page yesterday and today. Here are a few of them.

“We’re continuing to manually check in as many customers as possible today. We’ve also sub-chartered aircraft from other carriers,” including WestJet and Air Transat, to help out.

“Our teams have been working hard to get more planes off the ground today. Between manual check-ins and sub-chartered aircrafts, 26 planes have departed so far today with another 6 expected to depart tonight,” the company said Wednesday night.

“We’ve extended the option to change travel dates with no fees for Sunwing bookings impacted by the system outage. Applies to Sunwing bookings with originally scheduled departure dates between April 19, 2022 and April 25, 2022. Valid for travel up to June 23, 2022.”

“How to request a change: – For changes to southbound travel dates, call your local travel agent or the Sunwing Sales Centre at 1-877-786-9464 – For changes to your return flight, contact your local Sunwing Experiences rep at your hotel.”

“Thank you for your continued patience and understanding during this unfortunate situation.”
