Another new, luxury hotel is coming to downtown Toronto.  Easton’s Group of Hotels announced the “topping off” of its upcoming Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville Hotel, marking the completion of its structural framework. To celebrate this milestone, the group held a ceremony at the construction site, 387 Bloor Street East, on Thursday, July 21. Ace Hotel Toronto — the brand’s inaugural home in Canada — opens its doors today. The 123-room ground-up project was designed by revered Toronto firm Shim-Sutcliffe Architects, led by Brigitte Shim and Howard Sutcliffe, recipients of numerous awards including the 2021 Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s Gold Medal, the nation’s highest honour for architecture. An influential international airline travel group has again called on the Canadian government to urgently discontinue its COVID-19 related travel restrictions. “These are now out of step with the global trend of lifting travel restrictions and are partly responsible for the ongoing delays and disruption affecting air travelers across Canada,” the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said in a statement. “Canada has become a total outlier in managing COVID-19 and travel,” said Peter Cerda, IATA’s Regional Vice President for the Americas. “Though governments across the globe are rolling back restrictions, the Government of Canada is reinstating them.” IATA says the Read more
