It’s a milestone day for Canada.
The Canadian government’s tough travel restrictions expired today (Saturday, October 1), ending some of the toughest rules in the world.
As of now, travellers coming into Canada no longer need to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 and no longer have to worry about random testing at the airport or the border. There’s also no quarantine in effect for sick travellers, and no more mask requirement on planes or trains in Canada.
The tourism industry also is thrilled that the pesky ArriveCAN app, which some experts said was overly difficult for some and was discouraging foreign travellers from visiting Canada, is now optional.
The Trudeau administration announced the changes earlier this week.
Travel leaders and union officials say the lack of rules could mean more travellers at Canadian airports that had all kinds of trouble handling crowds this summer.
The U.S. still requires foreign travellers to show proof of vaccination before entering the States.
