Air Canada Returns to New Zealand; World’s Coolest Neighborhoods Include Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver

Time Out magazine has come out with a list of the https://www.timeout.com/travel/coolest-neighbourhoods-in-the-world of the world, and Canada is well represented.

Montreal’s Mile End district garnered the fifth spot. “Part of the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough, this pocket north of Mont-Royal Avenue is home to some of the city’s world-famous institutions as well as epic new spots,” Time Out said.

In Toronto, Dundas West came 12th overall. “Nestled between Trinity Bellwoods and West Queen West, this stretch of Canada’s ‘city of neighbourhoods’ is a culture consumer’s paradise with boutique art galleries, snug bars, understated nightclubs and enough cosy coffee shops to keep you buzzing along,” the magazine stated.

In Vancouver, The West End was number 25 on the list. “Once a quiet enclave for the elite, the West End is now boisterous. Davie Village serves as home base for the city’s LGBTQ+ community (be sure to pop into the historic Little Sister’s Book & Art Emporium for some queer lit) and you’ll find bars serving all types of folks along Davie Street.”

Other North American offerings include the Dogpatch area of San Francisco, Avondale in Chicago, Ridgewood (Queens) in New York City, Silver Lake in Los Angeles, Coconut Grove in Miami and Barrio Logan in San Diego.

AIR CANADA RETURNS TO NEW ZEALAND

Air Canada this week (Thursday, Nov. 10) returns its direct service between Vancouver and Auckland. Here are some cool things to check out in New Zealand.

Sunset Bar (Auckland CBD): Recently opened in July 2022 atop the Sudima Hotel on Nelson Street is Sunset Bar, bringing with it 70s-style decor and an incredible west-facing terrace for those golden hour moments and always a live DJ. The cocktails are elaborate, the wine list extensive and the food reflects executive chef Harmeet Sing Nanda’s Mumbai heritage.

Hotel Britomart, Auckland: New Zealand’s first 5* Green Star Hotel – Hotel Britomart has 99 beautiful timber-lined, cocoon-like rooms and 5 luxurious Landing suites each offering stunning views of the Waitemata Harbour, urban cityscapes or heritage laneways. The hotel features New Zealand art, natural materials, and custom joinery. With sustainability truly at the heart of how they operate, Hotel Britomart released a Sustainability Report in July 2022, racing the creation of the hotel and outlining their sustainability approach and goals and projects for next year.

Sunset Tour to Motukorea: Auckland Sea Kayaks recently introduced kayaking to Motukorea Brown’s Island to watch the sunset. Guests enjoy a kiwi-style BBQ dinner before paddling back under the moonlight.

I’ve been to New Zealand twice and absolutely adore the place. Here’s a story I wrote about the wine scene a few years ago.
