Just weeks after Hurricane Ian lashed the Gulf Coast of Florida, Tropical Storm Nicole is battering the Atlantic Coast.
Heavy winds and massive waves pounded the coast north of Fort Lauderdale today, forcing evacuations and temporarily shutting down Walt Disney World in Orlando.
WESH News in Florida said Disney parks closed Wednesday at 5 p.m. and will remain closed until at least noon today (Thursday, Nov. 10). CNN said Universal Orlando Resort also closed Wednesday afternoon.
Orlando International Airport was closed as of late Wednesday afternoon, as was Melbourne International. CNN said Palm Beach International Airport and Daytona Beach International Airport also closed Wednesday afternoon.
Orlando Airport’s Twitter feed doesn’t appear to have been updated today, and there was no immediate word on when operations might be restored.
Flights to other Florida airports also seem to be have been affected. WestJet’s 10 a.m. departure from Toronto Pearson to Tampa has been delayed until noon.
Tampa International Airport put the following statement out on Twitter this morning:
“Tampa International Airport remains open this morning and throughout the day. However, we expect increasing delays and cancellations due to the storm. Passengers should always check directly with their airlines for the most up-to-date flight information.”
