Porter Adds Toronto Pearson-Halifax Jet Service; Sunwing Has Sun Flights From Winnipeg

Canadians have a new way to fly between Toronto and Halifax.

Porter Airlines is introducing the newest route with its Embraer jets, with multiple daily, non-stop, roundtrip flights between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Halifax Stanfield International Airport (YHZ).

Porter has been serving the Halifax community since 2007. Passengers can now choose to travel with Porter using two Toronto airports on this popular route, including the downtown convenience of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

Pearson service begins February 23, 2023.

Porter recently announced it would fly its new jets between Toronto Pearson and Calgary, as well as Pearson to Edmonton.

“Halifax is a popular destination for business and leisure passengers. This new service from Pearson provides everyone with more choice,” said Kevin Jackson, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Porter Airlines. “We are growing our total number of Halifax flights across multiple routes by nearly 50% compared to pre-pandemic levels, averaging over 20 departures and arrivals per day.”

Non-stop routes from Halifax now include Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto City, Toronto Pearson and St. John’s, N.L. A number of connecting flights are also available at various airports on Porter and its partner airlines.

Flights on the Halifax-Toronto Pearson route will operate on 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 aircraft. Porter’s onboard service offers every passenger an elevated economy experience that includes no
middle seats, complimentary beer and wine served in real glassware, a selection of premium snacks, and free, fast Wi-Fi.

BRUCE POON TIP OF G ADVENTURES SANCTIONED BY RUSSIA

The founder of G Adventures, Bruce Poon Tip, has been sanctioned by Russia as it bans 200 prominent Canadians in a counter move response to sanctions imposed by Ottawa.

Speaking out about his ban from entering Russia, Poon Tip says he welcomes the sanction against him as it signifies his, and Canada’s, stance on what is right when it comes to human rights, as the invasion of Ukraine continues.

“What Russia is doing is horrifying. I welcome this sanction as it gives us an opportunity to speak out again about the atrocity of the war against Ukraine. I will continue to support the further sanctioning of Russia until they leave the sovereign nation of Ukraine, and stop destroying a beautiful proud country and killing innocent people.

“As a company, G Adventures spoke out early. We cancelled all tours in Russia, and refused to accept Russian nationals residing inside Russia on our trips, or to take bookings from Russian agencies.

“The fact I am now being personally sanctioned in return underpins my commitment to fighting the good fight, though it continues to devastate me that the Russian tourism industry and local communities are the ones impacted by these reciprocal bans when it comes to accessing the benefits of tourism.

“I have always said travel can be the fastest path to peace. It’s only by connecting with other cultures that we can foster connection and understanding between different countries and communities. If I have to be sanctioned to get this message across I’ll wear it as a badge of honour.”
