World’s Ten Busiest Airports + What to See and Do in Nova Scotia This Summer

CNN has a chart out today that lists the world’s busiest airports for 2022, and the U.S. is extremely dominant.

The top four on the list are American airports, and U.S. facilities make up five of the top ten (indeed, five of the top six).

China usually has an entry or two in these sort of lists, but the country has been slow to open up since the pandemic and failed to land an airport in the top 10 this time. The only Asian airport on the list is Delhi.

Here’s the top 10.

1. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta, Georgia (ATL): 93.7 million passengers; up 23.8% from 2021

2. Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas (DFW): 73.4 million passengers; up 17.5% from 2021

3. Denver, Colorado (DEN): 69.3 million passengers; up 17.8% from 2021

4. Chicago O’Hare, Illinois (ORD): 68.3 million passengers; up 26.5% from 2021

5. Dubai, United Arab Emirates (DXB): 66.1 million passengers; up 127% from 2021

6. Los Angeles, California (LAX): 65.9 million passengers; up 37.3% from 2021

7. Istanbul, Turkey (IST): 64.3 million passengers; up 73.8% from 2021

8. London Heathrow, United Kingdom (LHR): 61.6 million passengers; up 217.7% from 2021

9. Delhi, India (DEL): 59.5 million passengers; up 60.2% from 2021

10. Paris Charles de Gaulle, France (CDG): 57.5 million passengers; up 119.4% from 2021

Airports Council International, which released the 2022 figures, said it expects global passenger traffic to reach 92% of 2019 levels in 2023. A full recovery to 2019 levels isn’t expected until 2024.

THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN NOVA SCOTIA THIS SUMMER

There’s no shortage of things to do in Nova Scotia this summer. Canada’s ocean playground is overflowing with opportunities for outdoor adventure, cultural and culinary delights, awe-inspiring geography, whale watching and so much more! From lobster meals to exhilarating boat tours and the powerful Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia has the unique activities you won’t find anywhere else.

It’s one of my favorite areas of Canada, and the people are truly amazing. I love the area around Lunenburg, and I had a great visit to the Eastern Short a few years ago. It’s also hard to beat Cape Breton for scenery, and Halifax is a beautiful city with a fabulous waterfront. It’s also home to the new-ish Muir hotel, recently named one of the top 15 new hotels in the world by Afar magazine.

Here’s a story about great things to see and do in Halifax.

CANADIAN AIRLINES FARE POORLY FOR ON-TIME PERFORMANCE IN FEBRUARY

Yahoo says Canada’s two biggest airlines had the worst on-time performance among 10 North American airlines in the month of February.

Quoting statistics from aviation analytics firm Cirium, Yahoo said the on-time performance report, released last week, showed that WestJet ranked ninth out of 10 North American airlines. Cirium said 63% of WestJet’s roughly 13,000 flights flown in the month of February landed on time. For Air Canada’s nearly 27,000 flights, Cirium said only 57% landed on time.

U.S. carriers, of course, have the advantage of flying in parts of North America that aren’t nearly as affected by winter storms. An airline based in Dallas, or one that flies mostly on the west coast or the southeast, would naturally have a big advantage over airlines that do most of their business in Canada in winter.
