King Charles III Coronation: Surprisingly Affordable London Hotel Rates

There’s a lot of hullabaloo in Jolly Old England regarding the May 6 coronation of King Charles.

It’s the first coronation of a member of British royalty in 70 years, and there’s been a flurry of bookings. But a look at London hotel prices finds some very reasonable deals. Not only are people seemingly not getting ripped off, but several hotels have what I could consider excellent prices.

A look at Expedia.ca yesterday found rooms at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London – Tower of London for just $282 CAD, including all taxes and fees. A room at the Nobu Hotel London Shoreditch was listed at $431, including taxes and fees. If you wanted to book the Courtyard Marriott Downtown Toronto for May 5 for one night, Expedia was showing the cheapest room at a price of $346, with fees and taxes included.

CNN reports that Expedia searches for London hotels rocketed by 4,285% after the coronation date was announced, with Americans making the most searches, followed by Brits, Canadians, Germans, French and Australians. But I’m not seeing a big spike (or any spike) in hotel prices.

The folks at Visit Britain sent out some information the other day with tons of activites and links to all things royal. Here are a few options.

SECURITY CONCERNS FOR CORONATION DAY

Associated Press reports that the coronation of King Charles III “involves one of the most important and complex security operations in U.K. history” as rights groups accused the authorities of stifling civil liberties in their attempt to ensure events run smoothly.

Security Minister Tom Tugendhat said the coronation involves “one of the most important security operations that the country has put into plan,” with scores of foreign royals, dignitaries and heads of state expected to attend Saturday’s Westminster Abbey service.

FAIRMONT WINDSOR BLEND TEA TO HONOR KING CHARLES

Fairmont Hotels and Resorts has launched a special Signature Tea Blend in Charles’ honour.

Fairmont launched a LOT 35 Windsor Blend to celebrate the coronation. The tea is available for purchase at Fairmontstore.com.

Windsor Blend is a majestic combination of Darjeeling and black teas, offering a delightful combination of fragrant honeysuckle notes from Darjeeling and a refreshing taste from Sri Lanka’s high-altitude tea gardens.
