Air New Zealand Wants To Weigh Passengers, Plus National Donut Day + RBC Golf News

Ladies and gentlemen, step right up to the weight scale and get ready to board your flight.

It may sound, um, heavy-handed, but Air New Zealand is planning to ask passengers to weigh themselves before climbing onto the plane.

Now, before you get your knickers in a knot, please understand that the airline says this is a once every five years measure that would be purely voluntary.

My friends at Open Jaw Network report the weigh-ins would not be a permanent policy, and that the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority is requiring the move so it can properly determine airplane weight and balance issues for safe flight.

The survey apparently will help New Zealand authorities determine what the average passenger weight is in this day of readily available, fattening, over-sized bags of Fritos and gargantuan bottles of fizzy soft drinks.

NATIONAL DONUT DAY: JUST IN TIME FOR WEIGHING PASSENGERS

Plans to weigh passengers in New Zealand comes just as we’re about to celebrate National Donut Day, and isn’t that great timing?

Speaking of Tim Hortons, the 80-mile Butler County Donut Trail in Ohio encompasses 13 mom-and-pop donut shops and features unique donuts like fried cream cheese, s’mores, jalapeno cheddar fritters, key lime, raspberry cheesecake, fruity pebbles, banana pudding, pineapple fritter, almond joy and even vegan donuts. Visitors can collect stamps via an official passport and once fully complete, each passport can be redeemed for a complimentary official Donut Trail T-shirt. To date over 35,000 people have completed the trail from all 50 states and 22 countries.

Big brands like Dunkin Donuts have tried to join the trail, but the trail wants to stay true to support local mom and pop donut shops. Together the shops on the trail have over 430 years of donut making experience.
