Canada has its first-ever direct flights to Singapore.
Air Canada today announced the strategic expansion of its international network with the addition of non-stop flights between its trans-Pacific hub at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Singapore’s Changi International Airport (SIN). The new route will operate four times weekly beginning April 3, 2024*, onboard Air Canada’s flagship Dreamliner fleet.
“Air Canada continues to adapt its international network strategy in response to evolving global trends and is broadening its presence in the Indo-Pacific region to capitalize on growing business links and Canada’s changing demographics,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President, Revenue and Network Planning at Air Canada. “We are committed to growing YVR as a premier trans-Pacific hub, and Singapore is a top global financial centre, a multicultural destination that offers an abundance of tourism and food experiences, as well as an important gateway to beyond destinations in Southeast Asia, Southern India and Western Australia.”
“Our newest flight will be equally appreciated by international business travellers, as well as those seeking an exciting holiday destination, or simply visiting friends and family.”
I was in Singapore for a few days several years ago and loved it. I don’t care about shopping, but I fell in love with the funky neighborhoods and the lively food scene.
Seats are available for purchase now at aircanada.com, via the Air Canada App, Air Canada’s Contact Centres, and travel agents.
MORE OPTIONS TO SAINT LUCIA
Saint Lucia Tourism Minister Ernest Hilaire says Air Canada has bumped it summer service from Toronto from one day a week to three, and will fly to the island daily from December to April.
“We’ve never had that before,” he said at a Saint Lucia Tourism Authority lunch in Toronto on Tuesday.
WestJet has one flight per week now, but will go to three a week in winter.
PEARSON CRACKS DOWN ON BAGGAGE HANDLERS
A report in today’s Globe and Mail says Toronto Pearson is getting tough with baggage handlers who don’t do their jobs.
The newspaper says Canada’s largest airport is levying fines against private baggage handling companies that cause delays (and that give Pearson a black eye).
Under a policy enacted in April, contractors are fined if they don’t have proper personnel and equipment at the ready to handle demand.

DOUBLE DUCKS by Florentijn Hofman, will see two rubber ducks take pride in place in Victoria Harbour from June 10-23.
Summer is the perfect time for live outdoor entertainment, and Hong Kong has plenty to offer this season. Stay until sundown for a special edition of “A Symphony of Lights,” multimedia light and pyro show that illuminates the Hong Kong skyline.
