Kaanapali, Maui Gradually Opening to Visitors; More Hotels Coming on Line Soon

One of the top visitor destinations in Maui has already opened some of its resorts for visitors, and many others will open soon.

A spokeswoman for the Kaanapali Beach Resort Association  says a slew of properties will open October 8, and the final resorts should open by October 29.

Please practice responsible, mindful tourism, and DO NOT stop on the Lahaina bypass road. It’s not a place to take Instagram photos of YouTube videos.

“Remember, all of our properties are housing their employees and other citizens of Lahaina that lost their homes and family members as well as emergency workers, so there is a lot going on that needs immediate attention,” association executive director Shelley Kekuna told me in an email.

The August 8 wildfires destroyed almost all of the town of Lahaina and killed nearly 100 people. The town is off limits to visitors, as it should be, but the governor of Hawai’i says other areas of West Maui can open October 8. That includes Ka’anapali, Kahana, Honokowai, Napili and Kapalua.

The marvelous Ritz Carlton Kapalua will open October 8, as will Napili Kai Beach Resort on fabulous Napili Beach.
