Detroit is the best city to visit for a National Football League game, a new study says.
Michigan’s biggest city won the title thanks to the prestige of its stadium and the city’s wide array of game day activities, according to BonusFinder.com.
Motor City took the top spot with a score of 81.7 out of 100, thanks to the high number of bars within walking distance, with 129 bars located within a 1-mile radius from the stadium, and the affordability of the Lions’ home stadium.
Sharing first place with three other stadiums, Ford Field was among the most affordable stadiums when it comes to beer prices, with an average price for a beer standing at $5.
Detroit also placed high on its gambling opportunities, with visitors to the city able to choose from a wide selection of online casinos and sportsbooks, or paying a visit to the city’s three brick-and-mortar casinos.
Ford Field also is indoors, which makes it far more comfortable for late season games.
Chicago missed first place only narrowly with the Windy City scoring 81.4 out of 100.
Chicago’s success was mainly thanks to the Bears’ long legacy and the popularity of their stadium. Soldier Field, the home of the Bears, took second place in the category of the most iconic stadiums that examined the popularity of each stadium on social media and on various review sites as well as their history.
The top five was completed by New Orleans, Charlotte and Pittsburgh. (My boys and I did a road trip from Toronto to Pittsburgh five years ago and had a great time.)
“While some of the top teams on our list haven’t enjoyed a great deal of on field success in recent years, they can still be proud of the fact that their home cities are among the best ones to enjoy the gameday atmosphere in,” said Fintan Costello, Managing Director of BonusFinder.com. “Our study wanted to discover which cities embody the spirit of football like no other by comparing their iconic venues and legendary players as well as the city’s passion for sports, including all the on and off field excitement.”
