Travel Rewards: If You Like to Travel, You Should Be An Air Canada Aeroplan Member

Travel rewards programs are a great, no-cost way to save money and earn valuable points towards great trips.

And Air Canada’s Aeroplan is one of the best for Canadians.

With help from Aeroplan, you can turn your travel dreams into reality with endless redemption opportunities on flights to more than 1,300 destinations worldwide through the biggest network of airline partners. Better still, there are no restrictions or blackout dates to hold you back.

I’ve been an Aeroplan member for a good 30-40 years now. I’ve used my points to book dozens of great trips around the world; Europe, Hawaii, Vancouver, New York, Florida. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve booked myself (or a family member) for a trip to California to see my Dad. I’m actually using my points this weekend to book my wife on a flight to Miami in early February.

If you’re looking for travel savings, Aeroplan loyalty members can earn and redeem points to their dream destinations, with flights starting at as little as 6,000 points!

If you need some inspiration, Aeroplan is here to share Canadians’ trending travel habits for the year ahead:

  • April steals the show as the busiest travel time, outshining Family Day and Spring Break in popularity. Looking for a laid-back getaway? Consider booking during the month of February.

  • Home sweet home – Canadians are still loving local travel, with Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver leading as top domestic destinations. Thanks to low-cost flight redemptions, members can cover their entire flight starting at 6,000 points.

  • Ready to kick off those bucket list trips? Thanks to Air Canada’s new 2024 route additions, you can make your travel dreams a reality by booking flights from YVR to destinations like Thailand (ranging from 57K points) or Australia (to Sydney ranging from 72K and Brisbane ranging from 50K points). Members can also check Singapore on their travel bucket list with a new direct route launching from YVR this coming April.
  • There are more than 190 destinations in Air Canada’s network alone. Mexico remains a hot spot for Canadian sun-seekers as one of the top travel destinations in 2024, with flights to Mexico City, Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta leading as the most booked to-date. Plus, starting on May 3, 2024, an exciting new year-round direct route to Tulum from YYZ and YUL just landed!

I recently returned from a couple weeks in Australia, and it was fabulous. In Sydney, don’t miss a ferry ride to Manly Beach, a tour of the dramatic Opera House. For a hotel, try the new W Sydney in Darling Harbour, which has a remarkable rooftop pool. You also can hop on a flight to Brisbane and check out the sunny coast of Queensland, with its great surfing towns and laid-back atmosphere.

Thailand has been an open secret for decades; a remarkable destination that’s not only exotic but relatively cheap in terms of food and hotels. A room at The Peninsula hotel in Paris will cost you $2,450 CAD for one night for Feb. 8, 2024. In Bangkok, that hotel (I stayed there years ago and thought it was outstanding) is $565. You could spend nearly five nights in Bangkok at a five-star hotel for what it would cost for one night in Paris. A top-notch four-star hotel in Bangkok can be as little as $240 CAD per night.

Singapore is another great destination in Asia. Yes, there’s lots of high-end shopping and fancy hotels with rooftop pools, but what I loved most was the street food; delicious laksa noodle dishes and other spicy cuisine at the hawker markets.

Whether you’re a novice traveller or frequent flyer, Aeroplan makes your dollars work harder and faster with the ability to earn and redeem points at every step of the journey. I earn points when I fly, but also at the gas station, at the liquor store, and many other places. Hey, it all adds up!
