Florida City Cashing in on Taylor Swift + Western Australia News + U.S. Election Worries Spark Look at Overseas Moves by Americans

In case you’ve been living in a cave, Taylor Swift has a new album out. One of the songs, “Florida,” has a line about a Florida panhandle city called Destin, which is famous for its relaxed vibe and white sand beaches.

“Little did you know your home’s really only a town you’re just a guest in, So you work your life away just to pay for a timeshare down in Destin,” Swift sings in the song, which is on her “Tortured Poets Department ” album.

Destin Tourism, not being entirely without common sense, is hoping to capitalize on their five seconds of fame by trumpeting their inclusion in a song by the world’s most popular artist. Okay, maybe it’s not the most complimentary line in music history, but, hey, there’s no such thing as bad publicity, right?

“I was not sure exactly what was going on, but I quickly realized that Taylor dropped an album last night,” Destin Mayor Bobby Wagner told Thrillist. “We’re super honored to be the only city that was mentioned in her ‘Florida’ song. I think it’s an awesome moody song and we were just very happy and excited to be a part of the T-Swizzle community.”

Jennifer Adams, Destin-Fort Walton Beach’s tourism director, told Thrillist that her office was over the moon when it learned that Destin was mentioned by Swift.

“We’ve not only seen more searches on Google, but we’ve had a lot of inquiries into the welcome center,” she said. “And, lots of locals. Everybody really, really seems very pleased. We’re thrilled.”

Swift will appear in Toronto in November.

MORE FLORIDA: NEW MICHELIN STARS ANNOUNCED

Nine restaurants joined the sought-after group of MICHELIN-Starred restaurants in Florida, as the 2024 selection of the MICHELIN Guide Miami, Orlando and Tampa was announced recently at the Tampe EDITION hotel.

In total, 26 restaurants were awarded Stars by the anonymous MICHELIN Guide inspectors, with L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Miami remaining atop the list with two MICHELIN Stars. This year’s selection includes 149 restaurants and 38 types of cuisine with the new Stars including Japanese, Peruvian, Vietnamese and Scandinavian.

Here’s a full story on the Michelin honours from my friends at Open Jaw. And here’s a look at some of the great places I dined at in Tampa earlier this year.

Western Australia’s wild and remote northern region, the Kimberley, is now open for the 2024 season, which typically runs April through approximately September – depending on when the wet season arrives!

In the last year, the Kimberley has been voted by a number of prestigious travel industry leaders as a top place to travel in 2024. I’ve never been, but it’s at the top of my list for my next Australia trip!

The Kimberley cruising season is set to sail in 2024, with more Kimberley departures than ever.

The second of two luxury, purpose-built expedition ships to be operated by Seabourn will sail the Kimberley coastline in mid-2024. Seabourne Pursuit will operate in the Kimberley from early June through to mid-August, with 10-day expedition cruises through the waterfalls and wonders of the Kimberley on-board a luxury expedition cruising ship with 264 suites.

Scenic Eclipse II will start cruising the Kimberley in May 2024 on the Discovery Yacht, offering a new level of 6-star ultra-luxury experience – and the only ship sailing the region with two helicopters on board. The vessel caters for up to 228 guests, with spacious all veranda suites, personalized butler service, a spa, two vitality pools, up to 10 dining experiences, next-generation Zodiacs and the two state-of-the-art helicopters.

French-flagged expedition cruise line PONANT and luxury pearling company Paspaley will debut a boutique expedition motor yacht Paspaley Pearl by PONANT in the Kimberley when it begins its inaugural season in June 2024. The 30-guest vessel will bring a new era of luxury explorations in the Kimberley as the only boutique expedition motor yacht with private balconies.

U.S. ELECTION HAS AMERICANS MULLING A MOVE OVERSEAS?

We often see this during an election year, but a new study finds some Americans are worried about who the next presidents of the U.S. might be, and that they’re mulling over the idea of a move overseas.

According to the survey, 65% of International Living readers now say that the current political environment has prompted them to move up their timelines for relocating overseas. Additionally, 78% believe that ensuring the well-being of retirees should be a top priority for future U.S. policy, indicating a deep-seated concern about the stability of their future domestically.

The U.S. election in November is seemingly a second showdown between Joe Biden, the incumbent, and a certain “businessman” named Donald Trump.
