Canadians Looking to Montreal, New York City and Paris for May Getaways

With the summer travel season almost upon us, Canadians are looking to explore some of Canada’s top cities, as well as key spots in the U.S. and Europe.

Booking.com polled Canadians from March 28 to April 6, 2024 to find out where they’re interested in going. Here’s what they found.

The top trending destinations around the world that Canadians are searching  on Booking.com from May 17th to 20th are:

 
  1. NEW YORK CITY

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to NYC over May 24th weekend is up 21% year-over-year.  The Big Apple ranked first last year as well. Truly one of the world’s great cities.

  1. PARIS

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to Paris over May 24th weekend is up 6% year-over-year. Last year’s rank was also #2. Haven’t been in 12 years or so, but it’s one of the most intriguing and most beautiful cities on earth.

 

  1. BARCELONA

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to Barcelona over May 24th weekend is up a whopping 37% year-over-year! Barcelona ranked fourth last year. Stopped there for a day on a recent MSC cruise.

  1. ROME

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to Rome over May 24th weekend is up significantly as well at 45% year-over-year! Last year’s rank was #6. Spent a couple days there recently and had use of a very nice Vrbo unit in Trastevere!

  1. LONDON

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to London over May 24th weekend is up 21% year-over-year. London fell from the third position in last year’s ranking. Easily one of the top five cities on earth.

 

TOP TRENDING DOMESTIC DESTINATIONS

  1. MONTREAL

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to Montreal over the May 24 weekend is up 2% year-over-year. Montreal ranked number one last year, as well. Amazing food, culture, history and wonderful neighbourhoods such as Plateau, Mile End and Little Burgundy.

  1. TORONTO

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to Toronto over May 24th weekend is up 4% year-over-year. Last year’s rank was also #2. I’m biased as I live there, but Toronto has some of the best food on the planet, as well as great places to explore such as the Distillery District and the Toronto Islands.

 
  1. VANCOUVER

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to Vancouver over May 24th weekend is down 14% year-over-year. Vancouver was ranked third last year as well. One of the most beautiful cities on earth, with fresh seafood, the ultra-fabulous Stanley Park, and beautiful water all around.

 
  1. QUEBEC CITY

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to Quebec City over May 24th weekend is up 19% year-over-year. Last year’s rank was #5. Probably the most romantic city in North America.

 
  1. OTTAWA

The number of Canadian travellers looking to travel to Ottawa over May 24th weekend is up 12% year-over-year. Ottawa finished sixth in the rankings last year. Ottawa is a vastly underrated city with amazing museums, cool neighborhoods and fine hotels, such as the Fairmont Chateau Laurier.
