U.S.A. and Canada’s Coolest Cities: New York City, L.A., S.F. and Toronto Make the Top Ten

What are the coolest cities in the U.S. and Canada? The team at CanadaSportsBetting analyzed cities based on factors like culture, dining, social engagement, tech, and environmental sustainability and came up with a fun list.

“The eight categories we used cover the many aspects of a city and what goes into creating its overall vibe. The cultural and arts scene of a place, for instance, gives a flavor of what locals can experience on their doorsteps, from live music events to museums and places of historical importance,” the group said.

New York City (no surprise) came out on top, and by a huge margin, with a score of 72.68. Next was Washington D.C. at 48.75, and then Los Angeles a hair behind at 48.66.

Toronto was sixth overall in the two countries with a score of 40.94, while Vancouver was 13th, Calgary 18th, Montreal 21st (behind Calgary?) and Edmonton 24th. Surprisingly, Edmonton was one spot ahead of Las Vegas. Kansas City and Indianapolis also ranked ahead of Sin City.

Canada had five cities in the top 25. That’s 20%, which is pretty good when you consider Canada has roughly 1/10 the population of the U.S.

My home state of California got four cities in the top 25: L.A. (3rd), San Francisco (4th), San Diego (11th) and San Jose (19th). Texas had three cities in the top 25: Dallas (14th), Houston (16th) and Austin (17th).

Somehow, Miami didn’t make the list, which suggests that someone thinks Kansas City is cooler than Miami. I like KC plenty, but I don’t think so.

Below is a table showcasing the top 10 coolest cities in North America.

Rank City Coolness Index Score
1 New York City 72.68
2 Washington 48.75
3 Los Angeles 48.66
4 San Francisco 44.63
5 Portland 42.26
6 Toronto 40.94
7 Chicago 39.92
8 Seattle 39.29
9 Boston 36.52
10 Philadelphia 36.44

And here are the top scores for Canadian cities:

  1. Toronto, 40.94
  2. Vancouver, 33.25
  3. Calgary, 27.71
  4. Montreal, 25.48
  5. Edmonton, 24.97
  6. Winnipeg, 20.79 (35th overall)
  7. Ottawa, 19.92 (40th)
  8. Quebec City, 15.68 (45th)
  9. Kitchener, 15.61 (46th)
  10. Hamilton, 14.91 (48th)

Again, this seems bizarre to me. Halifax is edged out by Kitchener and Hamilton? Not a chance. Sorry, Kitchener and Hamilton. But it makes no sense.
