Flair Airlines Tops Canada Airline Complaints List; Porter Takes First Place

If you’re looking for a hassle-free flight in Canada, you might want to think twice about Flair Airlines.

Low-fare Flair Airlines had more customer complaints than any airline in Canada in the last fiscal quarter of the year, while Porter Airlines had the least.

The Canadian Transportation Agency has released airline complaint figures for the three-month period from April to June of this year. The report includes airlines with an average of one or more complaints per 100 flights to/from/within Canada submitted to the CTA during 1one of the quarterly periods. Airlines that did not meet this criteria, or that did not operate at least 100 flights over the reporting periods, are not included on the list.

The CTA said complaint data is based on information submitted by passengers and may not have been reviewed by the agency at the time of publishing.

Among Canadian airlines, Flair had 17.9 complaints per 100 flights, almost one in five. Sunwing was next worst, with a figure of 9.5, followed by WestJet at 5.3 and Air Transat at 4.8.

Air Canada was fourth best with 4.7 complaints per 100 flights, while now-defunct Canada Jetlines was in third at 4.2 and Quebec-based Air Liaison second at 2.9. Tops in Canada was Porter Airlines, with just 1.2 complaints per 100 flights.

Over the past five quarters, Porter was best with 1.3 complaints per 100 flights. Air Transat was second at 3.2, followed by Air Canada at 5.0, WestJet at 5.2, Canada Jetlines at 5.6, Sunwing at 11.4 and Flair at 15.0.

The CTA also looked at international airlines and found the most complaints were for Royal Air Maroc (31.1), followed by Qatar Airways at 29.6 and Air India at 28.3.

Other international ratings for the April-to-June period include Emirates (6.9 complaints per 100 flights), British Airways (3.7), Air France (11.3), American Airlines (3.6), Air New Zealand (3.2) and United (just 1.3). Figures for Delta Airlines were not available.
