With 2024 coming to a close, KAYAK, the world’s leading travel search engine, is forecasting the future of Canadian travel habits that will rule the year ahead.
From the hottest trending international destinations to the best deals for a sunny getaway, these are the top travel trends to expect in 2025:
- A strong surge in international travel searches – Canadians are taking things abroad next year with international travel making up over three quarters of all searches. With domestic travel costs rising to the most expensive it’s been in four years (and seeing another 19% increase in domestic airfare in 2025), it’s no surprise that overseas trips are dominating Canadian’s travel bucket lists.
- Africa is the #1 trending region for Canadians – Canadians are planning trips to Africa in unprecedented numbers, with searches in the region up nine per cent compared to 2024 and 40% compared to 2023. Spots like Marrakech, Johannesburg and Casablanca are all seeing double digit percentage increases in searches year over year (up 64%, 29% and 18% respectively).
- Tropical, trendy & affordable – Nothing breaks up a long Canadian winter like a getaway to the Caribbean. Thankfully, the Caribbean is the cheapest it’s been in three years, with prices down five per cent compared to 2024.

The best Caribbean deals for Canadians looking for a sunny getaway are Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic ($624), George Town, Cayman Islands ($684), Nassau, The Bahamas ($695) and San Juan, Puerto Rico ($724).
- Live life large again because Business Class is booming – Travel in comfort without breaking the bank. Business class searches are up six per cent in 2025, which is great news because business and first class airfares are down five per cent year over year (the largest drop of any fare class).
