Toronto-based Porter Airlines says it isn’t following Air Canada’s lead by pulling back on some of its U.S. routes. At least not yet. Air Canada on Friday (Feb. 14) said it will reduce capacity to Florida, Las Vegas and Arizona as the U.S.-Canada tariff dispute simmers and the Canadian dollar continues to struggle. WestJet said it’s U.S. business is down 25% and hinted schedule changes might be needed. Porter Airlines has been expanding rapidly in the U.S. in the past year, with new flights to California, Florida and other destinations. But a Porter official told me today (Sunday, Read more

Another winter storm is wreaking havoc on air travel in southern Ontario and in Montreal, with more than 420 flights cancelled today at four major airports. A new Leger poll should throw a serious scare into the U.S. travel and tourism industry. The poll finds that nearly half of Canadians (48%) say they’re less likely to visit the U.S. this year versus in 2024. That’s nearly double the 29% of Canadians who said the same thing in a Narrative poll taken in mid-January. Perhaps more troubling for those who rely on Canadian visitors is that Leger found that 57% of Canadians with a household income of $100,000 or more are less likely to visit the States this year. The figure was 49% for those in the Read more
Forbes Travel has released its list of the top hotels around the world. Toronto claimed four of the five-star hotels in Canada, which surprised me a little. But there are plenty of four-star properties in Montreal and Vancouver, not to mention one each in Banff and Halifax. For the Caribbean, luxury destinations such as the Cayman Islands and Anguilla dominate the five-star list. FIVE-STAR HOTELS IN CANADA Four Seasons, Toronto (haven’t Read more
