New and Renovated Hilton Hotels Coming to Ireland, Costa Rica, New York City; De Niro’s Nobu Heading to Caribbean

Hilton Hotels is constantly adding new properties, and fixing up existing ones. Here are some highlights for the next few months.

I’m also excited about the new Marcus Portrush, a Tapestry Collection by Hilton hotel in Portrush, Northern Ireland, as I’m planning an Ireland visit for the early fall.

The first Tapestry Collection by Hilton property in Northern Ireland is set to open in the popular seaside town of Portrush. This listed building, which operated as a hotel and artisan bakery for over 85 years between 1895 and the 1980s, is being carefully renovated to restore its former glory. The 83-room hotel will boast nearby access to the Bushmills Whiskey Distillery and the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Giant’s Causeway on the Atlantic Coast – a popular beauty spot for hikers, surfers, artists and families. I haven’t played there, but Royal Portrush is one of the world’s top golf courses and will host the (British) Open Championship in July.  My wife and I stopped in for lunch when we were in the area in 2010, and I’d love to check it out again.

Of course, The Waldorf-Astoria also sounds amazing. It’s one of the world’s most iconic hotels, and the photos I’ve seen of the renovation blew me away.

As a big fan of the Caribbean, I have to say Zemi Miches in Punta Cana also looks divine.

ROBERT DE NIRO’S NOBU TO BARBUDA NEXT YEAR

The Caribbean Journal reports that Hollywood legend and hospitality veteran Robert De Niro (his Nobu Hotels are in almost 20 destinations worldwide) will soon be opening his dream hotel on the island: Nobu Beach Inn, which is planning an early 2026 debut.

The property will include 36 bedrooms in all, set across 17 bungalows joined by dining concepts and plans for another 25 villas as well (yes, a Nobu sushi spot is a part of it). The Iournal said the project is on the site of the former hotel where Princess Di vacationed, the K Club.

I haven’t been to Barbuda, but I loved my visit to Antigua in 2013.

If you’re a De Niro or Nobu fan, you also should know that Nobu Toronto is set to open in the city’s entertainment district in June.

“Following the headline-hitting success of its Toronto restaurant opening in August 2024 – and its luxury residences selling out in record time – the hotel is now available for online reservations from June 1, 2025,” the hotel team said in a recent press release. “An urban sanctuary in the sky, the highly anticipated 36 room and suite hotel is set to elevate Toronto’s luxury hospitality landscape as it unveils the city’s most private retreat for guests seeking respite from the public eye.”

A prominent Ontario tourism group is lobbying Premier Doug Ford to bring back the Ontario “staycation” credit.

With many Canadians seemingly intent on staying home this summer and avoiding travel to the U.S., the Ontario Restaurant, Hotel and Motel Association is asking the Ford government to give Ontario residents a hand and boost local tourism.

“Given current economic uncertainties, reviving this program would yield significant benefits for Ontario businesses, workers, and residents,” the association said.

The CBC says the original staycation tax credit “was introduced in 2022 to spur pandemic recovery for the tourism, hospitality and culture sectors. It offered a return of 20% on accommodation expenses of up to $1,000 per person or $2,000 per family.”

The 2022 tax credit provided about $180 million to just over 900,000 families, the network said.
