Here’s an interesting study that arrives just in time for what is Opening Day for most teams in Major League Baseball.
A new study from FlashPicks ranked all 30 MLB ballparks based on the overall number of Instagram hashtags, to determine which stadium is the most picturesque.
I do quibble a bit with the methodology, as the teams that attract the most fans, which is are usually the biggest cities, are likely to have the most social media tags. I’m biased as I’ve been a San Francisco Giants fan since I was six, but the Giants’ stadium is hands down one of the most photo worthy stadiums in baseball. How their ballpark gets ranked outside the top 10 seems crazy to me.

Still, for a guy who loves baseball and social media, and a fellow who spent six years covering the Blue Jays for the Toronto Star, I find it interesting.
The study revealed that the Rogers Centre, home to the Jays, is the sixth-most Instagrammable stadium in Major League Baseball. The Rogers Centre, which has been nicely renovated and does have that interesting convertible roof, has tallied up an impressive total of 305,400 Instagram hashtags.
That’s a whole 56% more than the average amount of hashtags for an MLB stadium, which is 195,126 Instagram hashtags.
First opening its doors in 1989, the Toronto ballpark was originally known as SkyDome until 2005.

Plenty of nostalgic Blue Jays fans still call the stadium by this name, as the study uncovered 120,000 uses of the hashtag #skydome, as well as 184,000 uses of the hashtag #rogerscentre.
The Jays begin their season today (March 27) at home against the Baltimore Orioles.

In second place was the Yankee Stadium, the iconic home of the New York Yankees, with an impressive 748,000 hashtags on Instagram.
Third place went to Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs have played for over a century. This famous baseball stadium has tallied up 563,500 hashtags on Instagram. I had a tour a few years ago and loved it.
Fenway Park claimed fourth place with a grand total of 533,900 Instagram hashtags. Well over half a million attendees at the home of the Boston Red Sox have felt the stadium was worthy of a social media post. Fenway is a gorgeous, historic ballpark.
The home of the New York Mets, Citi Field, completed the top five, with a total of 508,600 Instagram hashtags.
