Best U.S.A. Cities, Tourism Boost For Canada, Best Airline WiFi

A new study by TD Economics says tourism spending in Canada is expected to grow at a modest 2-4% clip this year.

Spending by U.S. visitors “is set to exert a drag on the overall tally this year. U.S. visits are falling amid trade tensions and economic uncertainty, with cross-border spending projected to decline by 5-10% this year,” the study said.

“However, lower U.S. spending is expected to be offset by a rise in Canadian domestic tourism outlays as many residents redirect all or part of their travel budgets to the home market.  Moreover, spending by non-U.S. international tourists in Canada is also likely to turn in a gain, even if only slight.”

Just in time for the Fourth of July, Afar magazine has an item about how Resonance has listed the ten best cities in the U.S.A.

Here’s the Resonance Top Ten:

  1. New York City
  2. Los Angeles
  3. Chicago
  4. San Francisco
  5. Seattle
  6. Miami
  7. Boston
  8. Washington D.C.
  9. Las Vegas
  10. San Diego

For those of you keeping score at home, that’s three California cities in the top 10. No other state had more than one city on the top 10 list.

BEST IN-FLIGHT WIFI

Zdnet.com had a good item the other day about in-flight WiFi. It said a recent analysis of Wi-Fi on 30 airlines found that Hawaiian Airlines and Qatar Airways took top honours for the best download and upload speeds and the lowest latency, “far surpassing the competition.”

The site said both carriers use Starlink’s low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, allowing them to achieve better performance than many of the other airlines.

“Several airlines that also scored well for in-flight Wi-Fi were Spirit Airlines, Air Canada, Delta Airlines, Breeze Airways, American Airlines, and Aeromexico.”

I fly a lot with Air Canada and find the Wi-Fi to be excellent. I’m actually writing this from the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at San Francisco International Airport, which has very good food, a nice interior space and a sunny, outdoor patio overlooking the tarmac, with red Muskoka chairs, comfy sofas, and gas fireplaces.
