A new Leger poll should throw a serious scare into the U.S. travel and tourism industry. The poll finds that nearly half of Canadians (48%) say they’re less likely to visit the U.S. this year versus in 2024. That’s nearly double the 29% of Canadians who said the same thing in a Narrative poll taken in mid-January. Perhaps more troubling for those who rely on Canadian visitors is that Leger found that 57% of Canadians with a household income of $100,000 or more are less likely to visit the States this year. Forbes Travel has released its list of the top hotels around the world. It’s a big world, and it’s winter in the northern hemisphere, and I’m based in Toronto, so I’m going to only mention Canadian properties and those in the Caribbean. Toronto claimed four of the five-star hotels in Canada, which surprised me a little. But there are plenty of four-star properties in Montreal and Vancouver, not to mention one each in Banff and Halifax. U.S. News and World Report has come out with its annual list of top hotels and resorts in the U.S. and Canada. The Four Seasons Hualalai on Hawai’i Big Island earned twin awards by being named best hotel and best resort in the U.S. The Four Seasons Hotel Toronto was named Canada’s top hotel and Four Seasons Resort in Whistler, B.C. was named Canada’s top resort.
