A gorgeous patio overlooking the runway and San Francisco Bay. Tons of great food. A lovely bar with craft cocktails. And plenty of space to work. The new Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge at San Francisco International Airport is a great place to relax or roll up your sleeves and work. The lounge opened last month at Terminal 2 at SFO, and it’s a beauty. The rooms are decorated in soothing shades of tan, grey and soft brown, with floor to ceiling windows in many areas. There are plenty of quiet, cozy corners for a business person to plug in. Read more

Great food. Lively atmosphere. And a new ballpark to admire. A meal at Sportsnet Grill is a great way to enjoy a Toronto Blue Jays game at the Rogers Centre. Located just off the lobby of the lively Toronto Marriott City Centre Hotel, the grill has stepped up its culinary game with a new menu that debuted April 4. You can still get nachos and wings, as well as a Beast Mode Burger with a beef patty, bbq brisket, Nashville-style chicken, crisp bacon, chipotle, mayo and cheese, decked on a bed of lettuce and tomato. Hungry (make that starving) visitors Read more

I was there 30 years to cover a Denver Nuggets-Toronto Read more

A cool vibe, beautiful rooms, and views fit for a Hollywood A-listers. The Kimpton Everly Hotel has tons of great features that make it a welcome spot for hipsters, including a pool table in the lobby, free wine in the evening and a rooftop pool. But it’s not so over the top that your grandmother would feel out of place. We checked in for two nights in April and lucked into a 16th floor (as high as it goes) one-bedroom suite. The living area featured a large window looking directly up at the Hollywood Sign and, off to the right, Read more

OCEANSIDE – Visitors to this southern California seaside town will still find remnants of the days when it was best known as a place for soldiers stationed at nearby Camp Pendleton to blow off steam. There are old-style movie theatres and diners, and a number of barber shops proudly flying the Stars and Stripes and offer haircuts for as little as $11. But things have begun to change. A new Wyndham hotel appeared a few years ago. SpringHill Suites by Marriott followed. And then came the Mission Pacific and the Seabird, two sparkling, boutique hotels with rooftop bars sprung up Read more
