Would-be Canadian travellers are more worried about gas prices and increased travel costs versus COVID-19, a new study says. With the Victoria Day holiday weekend being the unofficial start of the summer travel season, online travel agency CheapOair Canada has released the results of a new poll that asked Canadians which travel destination and activities they are most looking forward to while also looking into what their top travel concerns continue to be. • The study found that over 36% of Canadians listed Canada as their preferred travel destination this summer, followed by the U.S. (7.1%) and then Europe (5%). The latest modest increase in coronavirus cases in the U.S. is not deterring travel planning in 2022. According to the latest Longwoods International tracking study of American travelers, only 19% of travelers say that COVID-19 will greatly impact their travel decisions in the next six months. The new head of discount Swoop Airlines says higher fuel prices have to be passed on to passengers. Bob Cummings, who was named head of Calgary-based Swoop last week, told Canadian Press on Easter Monday that his airline, a subsidiary of WestJet, can’t ignore market forces. “We’re always adjusting, almost real time, to those market forces when input costs to go up.
