Early fall is a marvelous time to get out and travel in the eastern U.S. The weather is still comfortable, and the kids are back in school. So it’s much quieter, especially on weekdays. And you can probably find better deals. Here are a few of my fave spots in the eastern half of the U.S., and here are some of the top things to do on the East Coast, including the best things to see and do in Detroit, Michigan, Palm Beach, Florida, New York City and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. DETROIT, MICHIGAN I spent a few days here this past Read more

A country’s safety and sense of security are often key criteria for international travellers. Using a set of 35 objective indicators, HelloSafe has published for the first time its HelloSafe Index of the safety of countries worldwide, based on 5 categories of criteria: risk of natural disasters, violence in society, involvement in armed conflict, health infrastructure and militarization. Victoria, British Columbia has been named the world’s best city in this year’s Conde Nast Travellers’ Readers Choice Awards, while Canada owned the top three picks for world’s friendliest cities. Victoria was third in the friendly category, while Edmonton came second and Calgary was first. Dublin, Ireland was fourth and Quebec City fifth, giving Canada four of the top five spots. The winter storm that swept through the U.S. and Eastern Canada over the last 24 hours is causing all kinds of travel headaches today (Feb. 23). The website flightaware.com reports 108 Air Canada Jazz flights had been cancelled as of 3 :30 p.m. Eastern Time. That’s roughly 23% of all flights. For mainline Air Canada, the website was showing 31 cancellations, or six per cent. WestJet had only a 4% cancellation rate as of that time (14 flights), but Swoop was showing 14 cancelled flights; 24% of their scheduled total for the day. Toronto Pearson airport was showing 81 outbound Read more
With summer right around the corner, people are beginning to plan their summer trips. Here are a few reasons why Milwaukee should be on everyone’s list for a summer escape. The city has a deep dedication to the arts and history. Like the first-of-its-kind Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel that broadly celebrates arts in its many forms (including an entire culinary experience) and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra’s new symphony center that was achieved by only completing a historic construction feat on a nearly 90-year-old theatre. I can’t forget to mention the iconic Pfister Hotel that continues to be the Read more
