Passenger traffic at Canada’s busiest airport grew almost four-fold in the first nine months of this year. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (“GTAA”) today reported its financial and operating results for the three and nine months that ended September 30, 2022. Passenger activity increased by 6.5 million or 135.1 per cent to 11.2 million during the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021. Canada Jetlines, the new, all-Canadian, leisure airline, announces a first international nonstop service out of Toronto Pearson International Airport to Las Vegas. The carrier’s first route into the United States is scheduled to launch on January 19, 2023, with multiple frequencies per week. Toronto Pearson Airport says security delays are improving significantly. They’ve also brought in a new program that allows passengers to pre-book a spot in line for security screening, and they’ll introduce a new trusted traveller initiative later this year. Canadian residents returned from over 3.7 million trips abroad in August 2022, more than four times as many trips as were taken in August 2021. StatsCan says Canadian trips abroad were up 340.4% in August compared to last year. Still, the August 2022 figure was only 63.4% of the level in August 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
