The Irish Government announced today (January 21) that almost all Covid-19 public health restrictions will come to an end. From tomorrow, restaurants and bars can resume normal trading hours; and restrictions on indoor and outdoor events, including sporting fixtures, will be lifted. “The announcement that most Covid-19 restrictions in Ireland will come to an end is excellent news for tourism and hospitality. It means that we can now move forward and begin planning holidays in Ireland with confidence for the year ahead,” said Niall Gibbons, Chief Executive of Tourism Ireland. An influential group of Canadian travel agents is joining the chorus of those pushing for a change to Canada’s on-arrival PCR test program. “The Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) and its travel and tourism advocacy partners call on the federal government to lift the mandatory arrival testing and quarantine requirement for fully-vaccinated, asymptomatic travelers so these tests can be used to support Canada’s domestic testing needs,” the group said in a statement today (Friday, Jan. 20). “It is important that the Government of Canada remove these temporary measures – as well as others introduced over the past two years– Read more
The head of the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) says it’s “positive” that some of its members will be able to re-open with limited capacity later this month. Speaking to the media on Monday, Duclos said the Omicron variant is still too severe to drop mandatory COVID-19 tests for air travellers arriving in Canada. Duclos said the surge propelled by the Omicron variant remains “a great concern” both in Canada and internationally, The Toronto Star reports. “At the moment, it’s not going to happen,” Duclos said in French when asked Monday about dropping the testing requirement for people who fly into Canada. “We are probably, in Canada, not even at Read more
