A Top Notch Cabot Golf Course for British Columbia; Destination Ontario Signs On With Blue Jays; New Flights to Cancun and Nashville

A great, new golf course and hotel development in the mountains of British Columbia, expanded Air Transat service to Europe, and a new Porter Airlines flight to Nashville. I also have news on Ontario tourism sponsoring the Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal hosting qualifying events for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

CABOT REVELSTOKE GOLF OPENS THIS FALL: HOTEL IN THE WORKS

Cabot, a leading developer and operator of luxury resort and residential golf destinations, announces expansion plans for Cabot Revelstoke, its four-season mountain destination in development in British Columbia. Highlights include a new 155-room hotel, Cabot Revelstoke Mountain Lodge that’s due to open early next year; limited preview play of its jaw-dropping 18-hole public golf course in fall 2026; and continued momentum across an exclusive collection of luxury residences.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Monashee and Selkirk Mountain Ranges, Cabot Revelstoke is rapidly taking shape in the charming alpine town of Revelstoke, celebrated as the “heli-skiing capital of the world.”

“We are thrilled to begin 2026 with strong momentum at Cabot Revelstoke, which is poised to become a basecamp for year-round mountain adventure and connection in one of the world’s most breathtaking settings,” said Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of Cabot. “The scale and beauty of the legendary destination make this one of the most captivating projects we have ever undertaken and an ideal location for Cabot’s first mountain golf and ski experience.”

Positioned near the base of Revelstoke Mountain Resort lies the highly anticipated Cabot Revelstoke golf course. Newly renamed, the 18-hole course is designed by acclaimed Alberta native Rod Whitman of Whitman, Axland & Cutten. Perched high above the Columbia River valley on a spectacular bench of land, the routing takes full advantage of the sweeping vistas overlooking the river and surrounding peaks. Designed to reflect the grandeur of its surroundings and work harmoniously with the natural terrain, Cabot Revelstoke will feature generous fairways, expansive greens and bold bunkering, with holes unfolding alongside dramatic cliffs, meandering creeks and natural landforms. There also will be a par-three course, which is great for casual golfers and familes.

I’ve played Cabot Links in Nova Scotia a couple times and toured next-door Cabot Cliffs which has been named one of the top ten golf courses on the planet. If Cabot Revelstoke is anywhere near as good it will be a huge treat.

TRANSAT EXPANDS TO CANARY ISLANDS

Air Transat has announced the addition of a new destination to its winter 2026–2027 program: Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from Montreal and Toronto. Starting December 12, 2026, through April 4, 2027, travellers will be able to fly there weekly, with Saturday departures from Montreal and Sunday departures from Toronto.

“Las Palmas offers the best of both worlds: the sunshine and mild climate of the Canary Islands combined with Europe’s charm and cultural richness,” said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat. “With ideal year-round weather, spectacular beaches, and a thriving culinary scene, it’s a destination that perfectly meets the expectations of travellers seeking something new.”

Already well established with year-round service to Madrid and Málaga, the airline has recently extended its Barcelona route to year-round operations. Valencia, initially expanded into the winter season last year, is now fully annualized and will continue to operate throughout the winter with one weekly flight on Fridays. I was in Valencia for a few days 10 or 15 years ago and loved it.

Air Transat is also continuing to grow its offering from Quebec City with the introduction of a new route to Rio Hato, Panama.

PORTER AIRLNES ADDING NASHVILLE

Porter Airlines is taking off from Toronto City Airport with its inaugural flight to Nashville next Monday, May 11. Somehow I’ve never been to Nashville, but I love the music and hear good things about the food.

FLAIR TO CANCUN AND ST. JOHN’S

Flair Airlines has brought back nonstop seasonal service between Toronto Pearson International Airport and St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The Canadian discount airline also says it will fly to Cancun from Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal starting in December of this year.

AIR CANADA CUTS FOUR TRANSBORDER ROUTES

Citing the spiraling cost of jet fuel, Air Canada is cutting short four seasonal transborder routes. According to the CBC, the carrier will end service earlier than planned on Toronto-Sacramento, Vancouver-Raleigh, Toronto-Charleston and Montreal-Austin.

The final flights are scheduled for Aug. 1 for Toronto-Sacramento, July 29 for Vancouver-Raleigh, Sept. 6 for Toronto-Charleston and Sept. 7 for Montreal-Austin.

DESTINATION ONTARIO SPONSORS TORONTO BLUE JAYS

Destination Ontario is partnering with the Toronto Blue Jays to connect the excitement of baseball with the spirit of travel, inviting fans to experience more of Ontario with every visit to the ballpark.

Through this new multi-year agreement, Destination Ontario becomes a proud partner of the Toronto Blue Jays and the presenting partner of Rogers Centre Ballpark Tours, creating new ways for fans and visitors to discover Ontario before, during and after game day.

I’ve been lucky enough to travel around the province many, many, many times in the past 40 years, 18 of those as a full-time travel writer. From top to bottom, and side to side, Ontario is filled with spectacular things to see and do.
