Canada’s Top and Hottest Destinations; France and Italy are Red Hot for Travel; Top World Destinations for Retirees

Expedia’s Fall Travel Outlook reveals that as Canadians continue to focus on domestic travel, two traditional top destinations are seeing even greater interest as autumn approaches.

Always a popular spot for Canadians looking for a European-style cultural experience closer to home, Montreal ranks as the third-most popular Canadian destination overall, even as it also ranks fifth on the list of trending locations, with a 45% increase in searches over the same period in 2025.

Meanwhile, Vancouver sits second overall among all Canadian destinations, while jumping up to sixth on the trending list, with a 40% YoY search increase.

“Canadians are continuing to favour domestic travel over international trips, and the Fall Travel Outlook indicates the depth of choices they have in their home country,” said Melanie Fish, Expedia® travel expert and Head of Global PR for Expedia Group. “Travellers looking for festivals, history, music and culture are flocking to Montreal, while Vancouver offers visitors unparalleled fall beauty, from foliage to mountains and ocean experiences.”

The Expedia information is not only good for Canadians, but for anyone traveling to Canada these days.

The travel specialists Firebird Tours have just revealed which countries are the best trip destinations for retired travellers – and the results aren’t what you might expect.

It’s no secret that people approaching retirement age are travelling more, with AARP’s research showing that 86% of over-50s name travel as one of their top three priorities for 2026.

Firebird Tours analyzed 100 countries against seven key indicators – including the over-65 population density, availability of senior discounts, walkability, healthcare, safety, and age-rewarding cultural experiences – to find the destinations where being 60 genuinely beats being 20.

Here’s their top 10, and a few other notable countries.

1. Japan
2. Germany
3. Spain
4. Slovenia (great choice)
5. Switzerland
6. Austria
7. Denmark
8. Finland
9. Netherlands
10. Canada

The United States finished in the 20th position. Portugal, which I think of as ideal for retirees given the weather and relatively cheap cost of living, was ranked 17th. Australia came out 16th, and Italy finished in the 11th spot.
