Mandatory random testing of fully vaccinated travellers will resume next Tuesday, and Canadian tourism officials aren’t happy about it. Ottawa paused mandatory random testing for those entering Canada by air on June 11, 2022, as part of a broader strategy to transition testing for air travellers outside of the airports. So, you think those of us who live in Toronto have it bad with Pearson Airport? Well, yeah, it’s been tough, with long wait times, lost luggage and general messiness. I’m not excusing our airlines or airports, but Pearson isn’t the only airport suffering right now. Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport has had major problems, as has Montreal Trudeau. Toronto Pearson Airport has launched an education campaign on how passengers and stakeholders can work together to improve wait times at the airport.   Travel + Leisure magazine readers have weighed in with their top choices for hotels and resorts in Canada, and Fairmont dominates both categories. Fairmont captured six of the top ten spots for city hotels in the Travel + Leisure poll. Toronto-based Fairmont also copped six of the top 10 spots for resort hotels. American travelers are being scared by gas prices this summer, while Canadians seem to be avoiding international travel. According to the latest Longwoods International survey, 44% of American travelers say they’re reducing the number of trips they’re taking because of record-high prices at the pump, up from 36% in May. A similar percentage are also shifting to destinations closer to home as another way to cope with high gas prices.
