New travel numbers suggest Canadians made fewer return trips from the United States last month compared to the same time last year, with a sharp decline in trips by car and by plane. Statistics Canada says the number of Canadians returning from the U.S. by car last month was down almost 32% compared to March 2024. The tariff spat between the United States and Canada may be having an effect on cross-border travel. Flight Centre Travel Group Canada says leisure bookings to American cities have fallen off a cliff, dropping 40% in February when compared to the same month in 2024. We might be seeing some of the first data that shows Canadians are, indeed, avoiding travel to the United States.
