The Toronto-Vancouver air route is getting more crowded. Canada Jetlines, Canada’s new leisure airline, today confirmed the inaugural flight for its new, nonstop service out of its travel hub at Toronto Pearson to Vancouver International Airport. Porter Airlines has revealed its first destinations for its new Embraer long-range jets. The Toronto-based airline says it will begin operations at Toronto Pearson on Feb. 1, 2023, with flights to Ottawa and Montreal Trudeau airports. Six days later, Feb. 7, will see their first flight to the west coast, a Toronto-Vancouver trip. Canada’s largest two airlines have their eyes on Asia. A celebration was held at Vancouver International Airport Thursday night to mark Air Canada’s inaugural flight between YVR and Bangkok. Meanwhile, the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) has granted a license to WestJet for flights to Japan. Canadians will soon have a new way to travel between two of the biggest cities north of the border. Starting in December 2022, Canada Jetlines will begin flights between Vancouver YVR and Toronto Pearson YYZ using an Airbus A320. WestJet has reached a tentative agreement with workers in Calgary and Vancouver that should allow the airline to avoid a strike. WestJet and Unifor, the certified union representing certain WestJet airport employees at YYC Calgary International Airport and Vancouver International Airport, said they reached a tentative agreement late Sunday night on the first collective bargaining agreement between the organizations.
