Set for its debut on September 22, 2022, Canada Jetlines will begin operations with biweekly flights operating Thursdays and Sundays out of Toronto (YYZ) to Calgary (YYC). Flights will depart Toronto at 7:55 a.m. and then leave Calgary for the return flight at 11:40 MST. Frequency will increase to three flights per week, Thursdays through Sundays, starting October 13. They still lost nearly $400 million in the second quarter of the year, but Air Canada revenues soared almost five times higher than last year. WestJet has reached a tentative agreement with workers in Calgary and Vancouver that should allow the airline to avoid a strike. WestJet and Unifor, the certified union representing certain WestJet airport employees at YYC Calgary International Airport and Vancouver International Airport, said they reached a tentative agreement late Sunday night on the first collective bargaining agreement between the organizations. WestJet is trimming flights in and out of four Eastern Canadian destinations this winter, but adding more western Canadian flights and sun destination routes. The Calgary-based airline said this week it will end service to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on Nov. 15. (Swoop, a WestJet, subsidiary, will fly in and out of PEI, however). Canada’s airlines don’t appear to be following Air Canada’s lead on July and August flight cancellations. Spokepersons for both Air Transat and Porter Airlines told me today that they’re not looking to trim summer flights.
