A new study finds that one of Canada’s most attractive destinations still faces a bit of an uphill struggle when it comes to tourism. And, quite frankly, I don’t get it. A survey of Canadian travel habits and desires by Tourism Nova Scotia found that 37% of Canadian travellers who aim to take a holiday in the next 12 months will be heading to Ontario. The next choices were Quebec (24%), British Columbia (23%), the U.S.A. WestJet is trimming flights in and out of four Eastern Canadian destinations this winter, but adding more western Canadian flights and sun destination routes. The Calgary-based airline said this week it will end service to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on Nov. 15. (Swoop, a WestJet, subsidiary, will fly in and out of PEI, however). Porter Airlines is boosting its presence in the Maritimes in a big way with three new non-stop routes connecting downtown Toronto’s Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to Halifax, Fredericton and Moncton. Non-stop Halifax service begins April 7, featuring up to three daily roundtrips in summer, while Fredericton and Moncton both start May 5, with one daily year-round non-stop flight each.
