Inflation remains a problem for many Canadians. And it’s definitely an issue when it comes to travel. A new report from Flight Centre Travel Group shows that flight fares to major Canadian cities have increased by an average of 14%. The report shows flights between Edmonton and Vancouver are 82% more expensive than a year ago, while flights from Montreal to Toronto cost 36% more than they did at this time in 2023. Somehow I missed it, but I now see that the Hawaii Tourism Authority has launched a campaign to boost Maui tourism. Called Mākaukau Maui, which means “Maui is Read,” the campaign seeks to let would-be visitors know that it’s a good time to visit. “We wanted to offer a platform and a voice for them to make that invitation to folks,” T. The economy is a bit of a mess, but young Canadians remain eager to travel. A new Scotiabank study says 61% of Canadian Gen Z’ers and a third of Canadian Millennials (32%) plan to travel this spring. Overall, nearly one-in-four Canadians (23%) say they’re planning to vacation this spring, with another 17% considering travel. Among those officially planning a trip, the majority want to venture internationally (53%), while 42% plan to stay within Canada’s borders. What’s more, younger Canadians (aged 18-34) are mostly looking to travel domestically (53%), while Canadians aged 35-54 (58%) and 55+ (70%) are looking at an international destination. Read more
