The Canada Day weekend is behind us, but it’s still busy at Canadian airports. Flight Aware stats show that 54% of flights out of Toronto Pearson were delayed on Tuesday, while six per cent were cancelled. For Montreal-Trudeau, 42% were delayed and four per cent cancelled. Air Canada last week announced it was trimming roughly 15% of its flights as it deals with unprecedented demand and airport issues. Their website now has a list of the changes they’ve made, including flights between Toronto and several major Canadian cities, such as Ottawa, Calgary Charlottetown and Vancouver. The government of Canada says it’s bringing in new rules to protect passengers from cancelled or delayed flights. Sunwing Airlines Inc. says the network-wide system outage that has grounded travellers and delayed flights to and from sun destinations is still not resolved. The crisis is now stretching into its fifth day. Canadian Press and the Toronto Star report that Sunwing continues to advise customers travelling over the next few days to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
